Hotel Grand, the very first hotel of Nainital, still retains the crown as “Best hotel of Nainital”. Hotel is housed in a charming colonial building located right in the centre of Mall Road(Mallital end). Thanks to well thought out design of the hotel, the bustle of the Nainital Mall Road never bothers you once you are inside the hotel.
Most rooms at Hotel Grand offer excellent views of the Naini lake – especially the ones on the first floor - where we had stayed. Being right next to the lake has its advantages – you can go for late evening strolls along the lake and hop into a boat for the famous Nainital boat ride whenever you fancy.
Rooms at Grand hotel is indeed grand – High raised ceilings, wooden floors, antique furniture,. To the credit of the hotel management, they have modernized the hotel without taking away the heritage appeal of the hotel.

Hotel has very reasonable tariff- First floor double room costs Rs.3,000 - an excellent value proposition.
Hospitality Standards
Room service and dining are areas where hotel lets you down. If you stay there, just order breakfast from the hotel. It is fun to have these “English” style breakfast. For lunch or dinner, head to Nanak Restaurant literally next door to Hotel Grand.
Hotel's nostalgic trip
If you do stay at Hotel Grand, chat with the manager and he will get nostalgic about many celebrities who have stayed at the hotel. Apparently, the restaurant at Hotel Grand, was a favorite of Jawarlal Nehru and his grandson Rajiv Gandhi. The hotel manager claimed that Nehru was a frequent visitor to Nainital and for most of his visits,Hotel Grand played host to Nehru. Yesteryear superstar, Dilip Kumar,stayed at Hotel Grand for an extended period of time for the shoot of film Madhumati.
