Cheap and best hotel at Ooty

Please shortlist cheap and best hotel at Ooty for 3 nights stay with family. I will prefer hotel with room rent of under Rs. 1,000 a night.

YWCA Anandagiri, Ooty offers bungalows and cottages for under Rs.1,000/- . The main building is a colonial structure that used to house a brewery during the days of Raj. Standard rooms at YWCA,within the main building, are ordinary but cottages and bungalows are clean, spacious and excellent. YWCA Ooty is housed in a spacious campus easily reachable from Charing cross, the town centre.

Mayura Sudharshan, Ooty This hotel,owned and managed by Karnataka Government,is at a walking distance from town centre. Hotel is housed in a charming old building that was once part of Fern palace,owned by Maharajah of Mysore. The well maintained garden adjacent to the hotel adds to the beauty of the place. Room rent is a great bargain - Delux Non A/C rooms for only Rs. 1,296/-. Whenever, we visit Ooty, which is quite often, we stay at Mayura Sudharshan.

Room rent at Ooty depends big time on the season. For most part of the year, just land there without any booking. Look around and book a room after a fair amount of negotiation. For instance, a good hotel on lake road in off season will be Rs.800 per night or even lesser. You need advance reservation only if you are travelling during Christmas weekend or between April and mid June.

In off season hotels are empty, room rent will be a third of what is published on their website. For instance, today (7th February), I checked rent of Deluxe Suite in Elk Hill - A Sterling Holidays Resort. Makemytrip quotes approximately 45% of that quoted by the resort.

If you are lucky to be there on a weekday in an off-season, you could be the only guests of a star resort. Be prepared to be pampered though you have paid less than what a budget resort would have costed. Check some online booking sites for indicative tariff and then contact the resort.
