There are no tourist cruises to Andaman from Chennai or from any other port from mainland India. Ship to Andaman from Chennai is meant for ferrying Islanders (Islanders get a discount on the ship fare). Avoid the ship journey to Andaman, go by flight from Chennai to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Ship travel to Andamans takes nearly two and half days.

Journey is a big pain right from getting to know the schedules, booking the tickets (you can only book from Shipping Corporation of India office).

It takes nearly two and half days to reach Port Blair from Chennai and it gets boring from end of day one itself. Take the two hour flight to Port Blair from Chennai. If you book your flight tickets, 10 days in advance, flight tickets will be approximately Rs.6,000.

That is around the same cost if you by First class cabin by ship. Bunkers in ship are cheaper at Rs.1,600 but that is a torture.

If primary objective is to go on a ship cruise in India, try Lakshadweep. Diamond class of M.V KAVARATTI is comfortable. Government run SPORTS ( Lakshadweep Tourism ) offers packages (November – April)

Amet Cruise
Chennai based operator, Amet cruises started operating a luxurious cruise on Chennai - port blair sector with some fanfare last year. I have read mixed reviews about the company as well the cruise they operate. I did try to contact them while writing this post but was unable to reach anyone at their office.
